The seemingly strained connection between Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas and the organization has concluded with the team parting ways with Thomas, enabling him to enter free agency, sources informed ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Thomas is currently averaging 15.6 points across 24 games this season (with eight starts), having missed 20 games due to a left hamstring injury.

“Super excited ready to actually help and contribute to another team,” Thomas stated to ESPN Andscape’s Marc Spears. “My next team is getting elite scoring, good playmaking and a good combo guard.”

Thomas accepted a $5.9 million qualifying offer during the summer after the two parties could not reach a contract agreement. He averaged 24 points and 3.8 assists in 25 games last season, also dealing with similar hamstring problems.

This development provides Thomas with an early opportunity in free agency after navigating restricted free agency, where the Nets had the ability to match any offer sheet.

Now, Thomas is free to potentially sign with a contender as a scoring option off the bench or possibly in a starting capacity.

The relationship with the Nets appeared to deteriorate when Thomas was removed from a Jan. 23 game against the Celtics for opting not to shoot as the shot clock was winding down, choosing instead to pass.
