“You know the Pistons won again … you know the Pistons won again … you know the Pistons won again … ’cause all we do is win.”

Following each home victory, that refrain resonates throughout Little Caesars Arena as the Detroit Pistons play Gmac Cash’s “Pistons Won Again,” celebrating the team’s revival and the unique sound of Detroit rap.

Pistons forward Tobias Harris mentions that the song struck a chord with him right away.

“When I first heard the song, I was paying attention to the lyrics, and he said, ‘Best team in the league that’s the Detroit Pistons,’ and I always thought, ‘He’s manifesting that for us,’ so that’s our motto, that’s how we feel,” Harris stated. “Fans enjoy it, teams appreciate it, it’s a fantastic song.”

The song’s influence was intentional.

Since its debut in January 2025, the track by the Detroit rapper, whose real name is Gerald Allen, has galvanized the Pistons as the franchise experiences one of its most prosperous seasons in recent memory.

During the 2023-24 season, while the Pistons were enduring a historic 28-game losing streak, Gmac Cash — a frequent attendee at home games — grew weary of witnessing fans exit the arena in silence after yet another loss.

Gmac Cash had already achieved success with team-specific anthems, including a “Lions Won Again” song that gained popularity in 2021 as the Detroit Lions began to improve in recent seasons, followed by a Detroit Tigers-themed track in 2024 and one for the Detroit Red Wings in 2025.

“We just saw them losing so often — every time we attended a game, everyone left feeling down,” Gmac Cash remarked. “So I thought, I wonder if I could bring that same energy to the Pistons like I did for the Lions.”

He reached out to producer Helluva, whose real name is Martin McCurtis, with a straightforward concept: create a victory anthem for the Pistons.

“[Gmac] is one of the best rappers who can maintain the Detroit style and stay on topic,” Helluva told ESPN. “When he contacted me about the Pistons song, I envisioned people dunking, a crowd going wild. I knew it had to be high-energy material that everyone could connect with.”

Helluva embraced the essence that characterizes the unmistakable sound of Detroit rap: dark, powerful beats with a slightly uplifting tone.

“That’s the key element in Detroit, it has to feature that eerie piano like it’s Michael Myers approaching, but it’s the Pistons instead,” Helluva explained.

While Helluva crafted the beat, Gmac Cash began writing the lyrics.

Feeling like Cade [Cunningham] when I’m headed to the rack

We just won another game that’s another back-to-back

Best team in the league yeah, we really on a mission

And I don’t see no competition, we the Detroit Pistons

“I mention some of the players and the coach in the song, so it’s a clever strategy that works well,” the rapper noted regarding his creative approach.

“Pistons Won Again” was released on Jan. 11, 2025. Shortly thereafter, the franchise adopted the song as a victory tradition, playing it after every win during the 2024-25 season as they neared the playoffs.

Gmac Cash shared with ESPN that although he was already connected with the Pistons organization, he was still surprised when the team began playing his song in the arena.

“It was a wonderful moment because I saw people actually rapping it and they knew the lyrics,” Gmac Cash said. “I looked at my friends, and they started recording me, and I just began rapping out loud.”

The Pistons recognized the song’s influence as well.

“It’s high energy, it’s memorable, and it has that Detroit sound,” Pistons EVP and chief marketing officer Alicia Jeffreys told ESPN. “Our [social team] shares the song, and now Tobias is always the first one asking for it when we win.”

“We said the song was tough,” Harris remarked. “Fans were engaged, so we thought it was something we could truly embrace and generate excitement around.”

With a musical repertoire that centers on Detroit sports teams — the Pistons, Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings — along with other Detroit themes, Gmac Cash’s songs have reflected the success of the franchises he raps about.

According to Gmac Cash, this success has earned him a reputation as a “good luck charm” — and, he claims, the voice of the city.

“In Detroit, victories don’t just belong to the team — they belong to the city,” Gmac Cash stated. “I created the song about the team, energized the fan base, and helped contribute to that winning spirit.”

Gmac Cash began his rapping journey as a student in school hallways and eventually carved out his own niche by producing parody songs related to current events. This style led to viral moments — including a performance that won “Clip of the Year” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” for “Giant Slide” in December 2022.

However, in Detroit, it is his hometown teams that have provided him with his largest platform.

Music has always been integral to Gmac Cash’s life. His mother, Selena Allen, introduced him to gospel and R&B. He grew up watching her perform and realized that he wanted to pursue a similar path.

“When I saw her on stage,” Gmac Cash recalled, “a light bulb went off in my head like, ‘I can do this too.’

Now, as the Pistons are in the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference for the first time since 2006-07, the song that once manifested victories has become a vital part of them.
