Spurs' Stephon Castle sidelined against Lakers due to pelvic contusion 1

LOS ANGELES — San Antonio Spurs emerging talent guard Stephon Castle left Tuesday night’s away match against the Los Angeles Lakers due to a contusion in his pelvis.

X-rays showed no issues, as reported by the team. Castle was declared out for the rest of the game at halftime, when the Spurs held a 29-point lead.

The injury occurred when he fell onto his back after executing a remarkable block on a transition dunk attempt by Rui Hachimura in the second quarter.

During the subsequent stoppage in play with 4:10 left before halftime, Castle’s San Antonio teammates gathered around him while the team’s athletic trainers assessed his condition while he was on the baseline away from the Spurs’ bench. He managed to walk off on his own after a few minutes, albeit with a cautious gait as he made his way to the locker room for further assessment.

Castle, who was named Rookie of the Year last season, entered the contest averaging 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game.
