With just three days remaining until the NBA trade deadline, the situation surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo is evolving as the Milwaukee Bucks have made counteroffers to teams actively pursuing a trade for the two-time MVP, sources informed ESPN’s Shams Charania on Monday.

While the Bucks have historically been hesitant to consider trading Antetokounmpo during his tenure in Milwaukee, they have now begun to engage with several teams regarding a potential significant trade.

The Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors, and New York Knicks are reportedly among the most proactive contenders for a deal ahead of the deadline, according to sources cited by ESPN.

The Bucks (18-29) suffered their fifth consecutive defeat with a heavy loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday, placing them 12th in the Eastern Conference. To part with their franchise player, Milwaukee is looking for a young elite talent and/or a substantial number of draft picks in return, sources told ESPN.

Antetokounmpo has communicated to the Bucks for several months that he feels it is time to move on after more than 12 years together, sources indicated to ESPN.

This season, he has participated in 30 games, averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists while shooting 64%. He is currently out due to a right calf injury, which he estimates will keep him sidelined for four to six weeks. The Bucks have not provided an official timeline for his return.

Milwaukee is set to start a three-game homestand this week, facing Chicago and New Orleans before the Thursday 3 p.m. ET deadline.
