MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Timberwolves opted to rest nearly all of their regular players for the playoffs during a 132-126 win against the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, coinciding with franchise legend Kevin Garnett’s special appearance for fan appreciation night in the final game of the regular season.

With the Timberwolves secured in the No. 6 position in the Western Conference and the Pelicans already eliminated, the highlight of the evening was Garnett’s first return to Target Center in eight years.

The Hall of Fame forward, who holds the franchise record in nearly every significant statistical category, entered the arena alongside Timberwolves co-owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez after player introductions, eliciting a loud cheer from the audience and placing his hand over his heart. After embracing current star Anthony Edwards, Garnett took his seat courtside.

Garnett, who had a disagreement with former owner Glen Taylor following his retirement, reached an agreement with the team last year to act as an ambassador. His No. 21 jersey will be retired at a future date.

The Timberwolves (49-33) rested nine of their top 10 players, allowing fan favorite Joe Ingles to start, contributing with 15 points and 10 assists. Rookie forward Joan Beringer recorded 24 points, 12 rebounds, and seven blocks.
