According to TMZ, which broke the story, the individual taken into custody at LeBron James’ Brentwood residence claimed to officers that he thought he was James’ son.
At that moment, James was in Cleveland competing for the Philadelphia 76ers in a matchup against his previous club.
TMZ reported that security personnel identified the individual via surveillance footage and alerted law enforcement, noting that he remained outside the property.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson informed ESPN that officers arrived at 9:39 p.m. to look into a suspected burglary and detained the man on suspicion of stalking.
The man’s identity was not released by authorities, and a representative for James refused to speak to ESPN.
