Nigel Mansell commends Lewis Hamilton and expresses hope for his eighth world championship victory.

Nigel Mansell has expressed that he is not “embarrassed” about being a devoted fan of Lewis Hamilton and that he hopes the fellow British driver can achieve that elusive eighth Formula 1 world championship.
The 72-year-old understands the significance of winning a world championship, having secured one with Williams in 1992. He entered the Hungarian Grand Prix having triumphed in eight out of ten races and ultimately finished second to clinch the title.
He has referred to it as “special” and is cheering for Hamilton to bring it home. “I’m going to be romantic. I’d like Lewis [Hamilton] to do it,” Mansell stated in an interview with Sky Sports.
“Lando [Norris] has many years ahead of him. He can achieve it again.
“I mean, come on, Lewis. It’s special. You’ve accomplished so much, mate. Let’s just finish it off.
“Lewis is motivated again, and I feel no shame in being a huge admirer of his. He has had an outstanding career, and what he is doing is remarkable.”

Hamilton’s record-breaking eighth world title was within reach at the conclusion of the 2021 season in Abu Dhabi, which resulted in a controversial finish.
It was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who ultimately secured his first world title, followed by three consecutive championships.
Hamilton joined Ferrari at the beginning of 2025 but did not experience the dream season he had hoped for. It began positively with a Sprint race victory in China early on, but he faced challenges with an underperforming Scuderia car.
By the end of the season, following the Brazilian Grand Prix, he characterized the year as a “nightmare” and mentioned that he had “been living it for a while.”
This season, he has returned to the paddock in a much more positive frame of mind and achieved a third-place podium finish at the Chinese Grand Prix as a result.
He currently ranks fourth in the drivers’ championship with 41 points, while his teammate Charles Leclerc is eight points ahead in third place.
