TGL doubleheader recap: Atlanta defeats Boston, falls to Los Angeles

After an unparalleled week, TGL resumed with a Monday night doubleheader at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
It was a hectic evening for Atlanta Drive Golf Club, which participated in both matches. The team faced Boston Common Golf in the initial contest and concluded the night against Los Angeles Golf Club.
Atlanta triumphed over Boston with a score of 5-2 but subsequently lost the second match to Los Angeles, 7-3.
In the first match, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, and Chris Gotterup represented Atlanta, while Billy Horschel and Lucas Glover were not in play. For Boston Common, Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, and Michael Thorbjornsen took to the course, with Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama inactive.
In the matchup against Los Angeles, Horschel and Glover joined Cantlay for Atlanta. Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, and Collin Morikawa competed for LA, while Sahith Theegala did not participate.

Atlanta scores first
Atlanta Drive was the first to score. However, the point was awarded in an unexpected manner, as Boston opted not to take a hammer throw from Atlanta.
Boston wins Hole 6
Boston took advantage of a missed putt by Thomas on Hole 6, narrowing Atlanta’s lead to one point. After two shots, Atlanta was just over 12 feet from the pin, while Boston was nearly 11 feet away. Thomas narrowly missed his putt to the left, allowing Bradley to convert an 11-foot putt for a point.
Gotterup sinks long putt
Gotterup made a significant contribution for Atlanta on Hole 8, sinking a putt that extended his team’s lead to 3-1. Both teams were within 15 feet of the pin after two shots, providing Gotterup and McIlroy with chances to putt for birdie. Gotterup successfully made his attempt, while McIlroy’s putt fell short, just left of the hole.

Thomas narrowly misses 36-foot chip shot
Thomas opted for an unconventional approach to attempt a shot from 36 feet away. Instead of using a putter, he chose to execute a chip shot on the green, which nearly succeeded, landing just three inches to the left of the hole.

Bradley sets new TGL record
Bradley made a powerful first shot on Hole 11, achieving a 384-yard drive, which established a new record for the longest drive in TGL history. Despite this impressive start, Bradley was unable to capitalize, as the hole concluded in a tie.

Atlanta Drive Golf Club vs. Los Angeles Golf Club
LA strikes first
Los Angeles quickly disrupted Atlanta’s momentum from their victory against Boston. LA scored on Hole 1 and continued to defeat Atlanta on the following two holes, entering Hole 4 with a 3-0 advantage.

Fleetwood hits chip shot on Hole 11
Atlanta had an opportunity to reduce Los Angeles’ lead to just one point on Hole 11, but Fleetwood prevented that from occurring. Cantlay nearly made a shot from 43 yards away, leaving his team just 2 feet from the hole. However, Fleetwood followed up by successfully making a chip shot from just over 18 feet out, maintaining the score at 5-2.
