Wrexham’s Phil Parkinson expresses support for the revised Championship playoff format.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has expressed his support for the idea of an expanded playoff format in the Championship, asserting that the division has ample potential for Premier League talent.
Efforts are underway to increase the number of teams competing for promotion from four to six starting next season, with a decision expected at an extraordinary general meeting next month.
There are indications of some hesitation from the Premier League regarding a potential decline in quality; however, Parkinson, whose team is currently in sixth place and set to face third-placed Ipswich in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday, does not share these concerns.
“It’s incredibly competitive; just look at this division,” he remarked.
“The closeness and competitiveness of the league mean there are numerous teams in the running, and we are among them.
“Several teams have ascended and established themselves in the Premier League. Take Sunderland, for example; they have wisely utilized their TV revenue and positioned themselves well, demonstrating that it is achievable.”

“When considering the Championship, there are many potentially significant clubs in this league—likely, in terms of support, larger than some of the teams currently in the Premier League.”
Parkinson is unconcerned about cup obligations interfering with the primary goal of securing promotion and is keen to guide the Welsh club into the fifth round for the first time since the 1996-97 season.
“It is a distraction, but I view it as a positive one,” he stated.
“We talk about the magic of the FA Cup, so when the matches arrive, I want us to relish the experience. I want us to approach the game with genuine positivity regarding our performance.”
