USMNT’s Patrick Agyemang taken off on a stretcher, scheduled for examinations

United States forward Patrick Agyemang was taken off on a stretcher during the first half of Derby County’s 2-0 victory on Monday due to a non-contact injury that will necessitate a scan.
Following the match against Stoke City, Derby manager John Eustace indicated that the team must wait for test results to determine the extent of the injury sustained when Agyemang fell awkwardly during play.
“He’s gone off for a scan. So we’ll wait and see the results of that,” Eustace stated. “We certainly don’t want to lose any players. We definitely don’t want to see any players leaving on a stretcher.”
“Hopefully, it’s not as serious as it could be, but until we receive the scan results, we’ll have to wait and see.”
With two months remaining before the World Cup commences, any significant injury would likely hinder the 25-year-old striker’s chances of being included in the U.S. squad. Last month, Agyemang scored for the U.S. in a 5-2 defeat to Belgium.
Since joining Derby last summer from MLS club Charlotte FC, Agyemang has made a notable impact in his inaugural European season, tallying 10 goals and three assists in 37 Championship matches. He ranks second only to Carlton Morris on Derby’s goalscoring chart for the 2025-26 season.
While AS Monaco forward Folarin Balogun is currently the primary choice for USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino, Agyemang was considered for a backup role alongside PSV Eindhoven’s Ricardo Pepi and Coventry City’s Haji Wright.
The U.S. will kick off Group D play on June 12 against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Pochettino is anticipated to announce his final World Cup roster on May 26, ahead of two pre-tournament friendlies against Senegal and Germany.
