Tottenham nearing agreement with Igor Tudor for interim managerial position - sources 1

Tottenham is in the process of finalizing the hiring of Igor Tudor as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, according to sources speaking to ESPN.

Discussions advanced swiftly over the last 24 hours as Spurs intensified their search following the dismissal of Thomas Frank on Monday after only eight months at the helm.

Sources have informed ESPN that Tottenham examined a limited selection of candidates and pinpointed Tudor as a top choice due to his extensive head coaching background, which most recently included a seven-month tenure at Juventus.

The 47-year-old has verbally consented to accept the position, although the details of his contract are still being finalized.

Sources indicated to ESPN that Spurs are optimistic Tudor will be appointed by Monday, coinciding with the players’ return from a five-day break. Their upcoming match is against north London rivals Arsenal at home on February 22.

Tudor departed Juventus in October following an eight-match winless streak and has previously managed several clubs across Europe, including Hajduk Split on two occasions, Udinese twice, Marseille, and Lazio.

Sources added that Tudor, who secured two Serie A titles as a player with Juventus, will have the opportunity to make a case for a permanent position beyond the summer if Tottenham achieves success.

Currently, they sit in 16th place, five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, with a Champions League round-of-16 matchup scheduled for next month.

The harsh statistics behind Thomas Frank’s dismissal

USMNT coach and former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is a significant consideration for a permanent role and would be well-received by fans, although the Argentine’s future post-tournament remains uncertain.

Roberto De Zerbi is currently without a position after leaving Marseille, while Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola are nearing the end of their contracts at Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, respectively.

Spurs also evaluated Fulham manager Marco Silva prior to appointing Frank.
