Szoboszlai states Liverpool ‘ought to be pleased’ in Conference League

Dominik Szoboszlai expressed that Liverpool “should be satisfied with the Conference League” if their unsatisfactory performance persists and mentioned he feels “flat” after his team allowed a late equalizer in their 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Hungary international had given the home side an early advantage at Anfield with another remarkable free kick before Richarlison equalized in the 90th minute. It was yet another disappointing outcome for Arne Slot’s team, who missed the opportunity to climb to fourth in the Premier League standings.
“That is a significant disappointment,” Szoboszlai told Sky Sports. “I am unsure what occurred; I have no explanation. In the final minute, once again, I cannot count how many times this season it has happened. We need to wake up.
“I feel flat. We must awaken because if we continue like this, we should be content with the Conference League. I do not understand why this is happening; I genuinely do not know. I believe we played very well in the first half, controlling the game, and they hardly created any chances aside from one or two headers.
“In the second half, we simply did not replicate that performance. We will come together to discuss this; it is the most challenging time, but we must remain united.”
The final whistle was met with boos from the Liverpool supporters on Sunday afternoon, with many players appearing stunned as they exited the field.
“I did not hear the boos, but we can comprehend their feelings,” Szoboszlai stated. “We are not performing as we should. They should support us because last season we became champions four games before the end, and everyone was pleased. Stand by us during this challenging period.
“There is still time to demonstrate how much we desire it; we must unite and fight for the club.”
The result leaves Liverpool in fifth position, which will likely still suffice for Champions League qualification, two points behind Aston Villa and one ahead of Chelsea.
Slot’s team will aim to regroup ahead of their Champions League second leg against Galatasaray on Wednesday. They trail the Turkish side 1-0 on aggregate following the first leg.
“I believe it is reasonable for fans to feel frustrated because they have witnessed the home team fail to secure the expected points due to last-minute goals conceded on numerous occasions,” Slot remarked in his post-match news conference. “Now it is our responsibility to channel that frustration into [the Galatasaray game on] Wednesday and deliver a strong performance.”
