Manager Phil Parkinson emphasized Wrexham’s resolve to push their Championship playoff ambitions “to the wire” following their victory over Stoke, which helped them regain momentum.

After suffering back-to-back losses to Southampton and Birmingham, Wrexham comfortably secured a 2-0 win at Cae Ras, narrowing the gap to sixth-placed Hull—who drew 1-1 at home against Birmingham—to two points.

Wrexham will travel to relegation-threatened Oxford on Tuesday with renewed optimism before concluding the regular season at promoted Coventry and at home against playoff-contending Middlesbrough.

“The goal has been to take this to the wire, and that’s what we discussed with the players,” Parkinson stated after Wrexham achieved their highest league standing.

“We shouldn’t give the playoff spot to other teams.

“But how are we going to accomplish that? It involves taking responsibility and ensuring our performance levels meet the standards required to win matches at this level.”

Wrexham’s first goal, scored after 31 minutes, was initially attributed to George Thomason, although Parkinson later clarified that Josh Windass had made the final touch on a corner that went over Stoke goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

Windass netted his 14th league goal just 69 seconds later by capitalizing on a mistake from Aaron Cresswell.

Further positive news for Wrexham came after the match when it was revealed that Birmingham’s Tomoki Iwata had scored a late equalizer against Hull.

Parkinson remarked: “I genuinely didn’t know the score until I was heading down the tunnel and someone mentioned the game was still ongoing but it was 1-1.

“So, naturally, that is a bonus, and we won’t deny that.

“Birmingham is a strong team, as we witnessed last week, and they are likely disappointed not to be in contention.

“However, they have done us a favor, and now we head to Oxford to see if we can maintain this momentum until the end.”

Stoke manager Mark Robins appeared visibly frustrated as their poor form continued.

The Potters, who have managed only three victories since the beginning of January, fell to 17th place after suffering their sixth consecutive away defeat.

Robins commented: “There wasn’t much separating the teams until two absurd moments.

“There are numerous issues that need addressing. If individuals prefer to take the easy route, they won’t fit into my plans.

“However, it can be resolved, and I am eager to tackle that.

“We must ensure that our actions in the summer prepare us well for the future.

“This is a critical juncture, and I am determined to engage with it, as this situation cannot persist.”
