Marie-Louise Eta of Union Berlin defeated in landmark inaugural match 1

Marie-Louise Eta’s historic debut as interim head coach of Union Berlin concluded with a 2-1 loss at home against relegation-threatened Wolfsburg.

The 34-year-old Eta made history on Saturday by becoming the first woman to lead a men’s team in one of the top five European leagues.

Union Berlin, who appointed Eta for the remainder of the season following the dismissal of Steffen Baumgart last weekend, fell behind after an 11th-minute goal from Patrick Wimmer.

Wolfsburg, currently in second-to-last place, extended their lead just a minute into the second half when Christian Eriksen assisted Dzenan Pejcinovic, before former Nottingham Forest player Oliver Burke reduced the deficit late in the match.
