Man United’s Fernandes: I was confident Carrick would excel as a manager

Bruno Fernandes has praised the influence and skills of head coach Michael Carrick following Manchester United’s fourth consecutive victory since the former midfielder took over at Old Trafford.
Man United secured a 2-0 win against Tottenham on Saturday, maintaining Carrick’s perfect start as head coach and enhancing aspirations for a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence.

Bryan Mbeumo and Fernandes found the net in each half at Old Trafford after Spurs were reduced to 10 men when captain Cristian Romero received a red card in the 29th minute.
This victory will further bolster Carrick’s case for a permanent position as head coach.
“Michael has achieved everything here and understands what it signifies for these supporters, what it means for the club to win, and how much effort is required to succeed at this football club. I believe that brings something unique to the team,” United captain Fernandes stated to TNT Sports.
This marks the first occasion in two years that United has won four consecutive Premier League matches.
Carrick has altered United’s trajectory since he was brought in to replace the dismissed Ruben Amorim last month. Initially signed on a contract until the season’s conclusion—having previously served a three-game interim role in 2021—his remarkable impact will likely place him in strong consideration to retain the position as the club’s management evaluates its long-term strategies.
“I think Michael arrived with the right concepts of empowering the players,” Fernandes remarked. “He communicates effectively.”
“I believe he still recalls what I mentioned to him during our last match when he was our manager. I was confident that Michael could be an excellent manager, and he is proving it.”
Fernandes’ goal, a precise finish off his shin in the 81st minute, marked his 200th goal involvement since joining United in 2020.
United currently sits in fourth place and, with 44 points, the 20-time English champions have already surpassed last season’s total of 42 points for the entire campaign.
Although the club has been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions, qualifying for the Champions League would signify a successful season.
