Man City plans discussions with Rodri following connections to Real Madrid – sources

Manchester City is anticipated to initiate discussions with Rodri this summer prior to advancing negotiations for a new contract, sources have informed ESPN.
Rodri has one year remaining on his existing agreement and, at present, could depart the Etihad Stadium as a free agent in 2027.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or recipient stated on Thursday that “you can’t dismiss the top clubs in the world” when questioned about possible interest from Real Madrid, suggesting a potential transfer.
City is eager to retain the Spain international, who plays a crucial role in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Plans to negotiate a new contract were halted after Rodri sustained a significant knee injury in September 2024, allowing the midfielder to concentrate on his recovery and rehabilitation.
The 29-year-old has been able to participate more frequently during the latter part of the season, having started nine of City’s last 11 matches, including the Carabao Cup triumph over Arsenal at Wembley.

Now nearing full fitness, City is keen to meet with Rodri’s representatives to explore his willingness to prolong his tenure.
Sources have indicated to ESPN that City has been aware for some time that Rodri is open to the idea of returning to Spain to conclude his career in La Liga.
He joined the Etihad from AtlΓ©tico Madrid in 2019 and has secured 11 major trophies during his seven years at the club.
Rodri is one of two contract priorities for City, alongside Phil Foden, who is also poised to enter the final year of his contract. Nathan AkΓ© and Mateo Kovacic are two additional players whose contracts are set to expire in 2027.
Bernardo Silva is expected to depart at the end of the season, and City is evaluating players to strengthen their midfield ahead of the summer transfer window, irrespective of Rodri’s future.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is one potential target, although the England international is also drawing interest from Manchester United.
