Liverpool's 'finest': Teammates honor Mohamed Salah 1

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has praised the departing Mohamed Salah as the club’s “greatest” player.

The announcement of Salah’s exit at the conclusion of the season emerged unexpectedly on Tuesday, marking the end of a remarkable nine-year collaboration between the Egyptian and the Anfield club.

With 255 goals in 435 matches, the 33-year-old will leave as the Reds’ third all-time leading scorer, trailing only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.

Robertson, who joined the club in the same transfer window in 2017, led the tributes from the dressing room.

In an Instagram post, the Scotland international expressed: “Mohamed, thank you.

“Nine of the best years of our lives filled with incredible memories both on and off the pitch. Witnessing you excel at what you do and become one of the finest to ever don the Liverpool shirt has been a privilege to observe and be a part of.

“Your mentality is unmatched, and many could learn from it. You have challenged yourself every single day and consistently demanded more from yourself and others. It has been a pleasure to share the pitch with you for such a long time, but even more so to call you a friend.

“You deserve a farewell that reflects your standing at LFC — the greatest. Unmatched.”

Another long-time teammate of Salah’s at Liverpool also paid tribute, with Trent Alexander-Arnold referring to him as a “legend” on Instagram. The defender, who departed Anfield for Real Madrid last summer, added: “What a journey, brother.”

Current Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch also shared a brief message, labeling Salah a “legend.”

In a statement regarding Salah’s departure, Liverpool noted that he had “firmly established himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history, contributing to the club’s achievements of two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, and two League Cups, along with an FA Community Shield.”
