BRUGGE, Belgium — Simon Mignolet, the former goalkeeper for Liverpool and the Belgium national team, will conclude his playing career at the end of the current season.

His present club, Club Brugge, announced that his last match will take place on May 24 at home against KAA Gent, marking the conclusion of the Belgian league playoffs.

“While the final outcome is not entirely within my control, my dedication, determination, and effort will be present every day until my last moment at Club Brugge,” stated the 38-year-old player.

“We still have 10 crucial matches remaining, all with a singular aim: to secure the championship.”

Mignolet stepped away from international football in 2023. He earned 35 caps for Belgium, participating in three World Cups and two European Championships.

He joined Brugge in 2019 following a six-year tenure with Liverpool, where he made over 200 appearances and won a Champions League title as a backup to Alisson Becker.

Additionally, he has played for St. Truiden in Belgium and Sunderland.

According to local reports, Mignolet is set to embark on a new career in September, taking on a management position at the Belgian Football Association.
