FIFA outlines final stage of ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup 1

On Wednesday, FIFA revealed its plans for a final round of ticket sales for the World Cup.

The global governing body for soccer indicated that over one million tickets had been sold by the conclusion of the last sales period, which took place from December to February, and that additional tickets would be available for general purchase starting April 1 until the tournament’s conclusion, scheduled from June 11 to July 19.

This latest phase follows FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s statement in January, where he noted that the demand for tickets was akin to “1,000 years of World Cups at once,” asserting that all 104 matches in this edition of the Cup would be sold out.

FIFA has encountered criticism regarding its ticket pricing approach for the tournament, which is jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

In December, fans labeled FIFA’s actions a “monumental betrayal” when tickets were made available for general sale, with prices ranging from $140 for the least expensive group matches to $8,680 for the final.

On Tuesday, Football Supporters Europe announced it had collaborated with the consumer organization Euroconsumers to file a formal complaint with the European Commission concerning ticket prices.

FSE has condemned the high face values and the introduction of “dynamic pricing” for the first time at a World Cup, which could lead to further increases in costs.

FIFA stated that the remaining tickets would be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. It also mentioned that this latest phase would allow fans to choose specific seats, while those who have already purchased tickets would be able to view their allocated seats starting April 1.
