Supporters of Scotland have received confirmation that they can wear their sporrans during the team’s matches at this summer’s World Cup.

The regulations for the tournament allowed only specific types of bags to be brought into stadiums, and the sporran, which is traditionally worn at the front of a kilt, was considered too large to comply with the stringent guidelines.

This led to worries that fans would be unable to wear their sporrans during the games against Haiti and Morocco in Boston, as well as Brazil in Miami.

However, discussions between FIFA and the Scottish Football Association have concluded positively for the many members of the Tartan Army expected to arrive in the United States.

A spokesperson for the SFA stated: “FIFA has confirmed that sporrans will be allowed into the stadiums following the usual search and inspection protocols and will continue to collaborate with the Scottish FA to inform their matchday personnel as they prepare to welcome fans in Boston and Miami.”

“The ticketing and membership team at the Scottish FA is maintaining ongoing communication with the tournament organizers to ensure that Scotland supporters will be received at the venues as they have been globally.”
