Dominik Szoboszlai urges Liverpool supporters: ‘As fans leave early, it doesn’t assist, stay with us’

Dominik Szoboszlai urges Liverpool supporters: 'As fans leave early, it doesn't assist, stay with us' 1

Dominik Szoboszlai has urged Liverpool supporters to “stick with” the team following their unsatisfactory 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur and expressed concern over the number of fans who chose to exit the stadium prematurely on Sunday afternoon.

Szoboszlai had put Liverpool ahead in the first half at Anfield before Richarlison equalized for the visitors in the 90th minute.

By that time, some fans had already begun to leave, while those who remained booed head coach Arne Slot and his players at the final whistle.

“I believe it should be standard that during challenging times we come together more because that’s what we need; we need each other,” Szoboszlai stated after the match.

“We aim to bring them joy; it’s not intentional that we don’t. We want to make ourselves happy and please all the Liverpool supporters, but we require their support. Last year was certainly enjoyable to watch all the matches, but this year might not be as enjoyable, I can understand that. However, we still need their backing even in tough times.”

“Of course [I recognize the frustration]. But as I mentioned, they can be upset but should stick with us because we are a family, and we need you all. We want to make them happy, so let’s stay united.”

Liverpool’s draw with Tottenham places them fifth in the Premier League standings, although they missed the opportunity to ascend to fourth due to defeats for Chelsea and Aston Villa this weekend.

This leaves their chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League uncertain, while the Reds must also overcome a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Galatasaray in Wednesday night’s round of 16 match.

“A couple of weeks ago, we had a discussion among ourselves saying: ‘Guys, we don’t have much time to get this right, so we need to wake up and start moving towards our goal of playing in the Champions League next season’,” Szoboszlai remarked.

“We face Galatasaray on Wednesday, and it will be a challenging match because we felt it there.

“I don’t think it benefits us when, after 80 minutes, people start to leave; it doesn’t help at all. Stick with us. Everyone notices that, and when we concede a goal, some still leave the stadiumβ€”you don’t leave when we score. I understand the frustration, but we need them; we need everyone, and that’s the most crucial aspect.

“Certainly. I’m not saying they have no right to leave the stadium; they can depart if they wish. We need them, and they should be aware of this. We are at a disadvantage without them.

“I will do everything possible to finish in the top four, but alone I am not sufficient, so we need everyone.”
