Roberto De Zerbi and Marseille have mutually agreed to part ways following a series of detrimental losses, sources informed ESPN.

An interim coach will take charge for the upcoming league match against Strasbourg this weekend in Ligue 1.

After weeks of mounting pressure, conflicts with certain players, and disappointing results — including a 3-0 loss to Club Brugge, which resulted in their elimination from the Champions League, and a 5-0 defeat to rivals Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, it was determined that De Zerbi’s position had become untenable.

The club’s president, Pablo Longoria, sporting director Mehdi Benatia, and De Zerbi held discussions with several players on Tuesday, sources indicated, revealing that the relationship between the manager and the team had deteriorated.

The conclusion was reached that, to salvage the remainder of the club’s season, it would be best for De Zerbi to depart immediately.

Frank McCourt, the American owner of Marseille, is expected to announce De Zerbi’s exit on Wednesday.

The former Brighton manager joined Marseille in the summer of 2024. After a successful first season, finishing second in Ligue 1 behind PSG and securing a return to the Champions League, his second season has proven to be significantly more challenging.

Marseille currently occupies the fourth position in the Ligue 1 standings, trailing leaders PSG by 12 points and second-place Lens by 10 points amid their ongoing poor performance.
