Dayot Upamecano extends contract with Bayern Munich following speculation about Real Madrid interest.

MUNICH — France defender Dayot Upamecano has agreed to a new four-year contract to remain with Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga giants concluded a prolonged negotiation on Friday by revealing that the 27-year-old Upamecano has signed a new deal that extends through June 2030, putting an end to rumors regarding potential interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain at the season’s conclusion.

He had only a few months remaining on his previous contract.
“Upamecano is another central figure in our team who we’ve been able to extend with,” Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl stated on the club website. “A squad needs anchor points, and we’ve secured the next with Dayot. The question often isn’t who you sign but who you develop. Dayot has evolved into a top international player here at Bayern.”
Upamecano joined from RB Leipzig in 2021 when Bayern activated his release clause of approximately €43 million (then $52.2m). He transferred to Leipzig from sister club Salzburg in 2017.
Bayern executive Uli Hoeness recently voiced his frustration that Upamecano had not yet decided to remain with the club and indicated that “his advisors are going to do everything they can to lure him away.”
He has made 180 appearances for Bayern and has represented France 35 times.
