Arne Slot praises supporters for their support of ‘nearly flawless’ Liverpool

LIVERPOOL, England — Arne Slot characterized Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Galatasaray as “almost the perfect game” and commended the Anfield supporters for creating a remarkable atmosphere.
The Reds reversed a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in their round-of-16 matchup with a commanding display against the Turkish Super Lig champions, with goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch, and Mohamed Salah ensuring their advancement to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.

The atmosphere on Merseyside was electric as Liverpool fans rallied behind their team, despite having expressed their discontent towards Slot and his players following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
“From start to finish, I believe we executed the game I was hoping for, the players were hoping for, and I was hoping for,” Slot stated. “Not only did we play the ideal game from beginning to end, but our fans did as well.”
“From the outset, they did not accept what we anticipated would occur and what actually happened, which was that they would create a situation where the energy would diminish in the stadium by ensuring there was limited playing time.”
“Our fans responded excellently to that, and our players continued to push forward. There was a fantastic dynamic between the fans and players, making it nearly the perfect game for us and undoubtedly for our supporters.”
Slot also praised Salah, who recovered from missing a penalty in the first half to net his 50th goal in the Champions League, becoming the first African player to reach this milestone.
“It speaks volumes about him that after missing a penalty just before halftime, which can sometimes be challenging for an individual or a team, so credit to the team for how we approached the second half,” Slot remarked.
“We have faced numerous setbacks this season, with many first halves or second halves where we created numerous chances without converting them — so not scoring.”
“Then Mo and the team came out in the second half as they did, with him assisting Hugo, a brilliant assist, and then scoring a signature goal that he has netted many times in this stadium and for this club, cutting inside and finding the corner.”
“This highlights his mental resilience but also reflects on the team, as adversity is certainly a topic we can discuss this season.”
Salah was substituted for Cody Gakpo in the 74th minute, receiving a standing ovation from the Anfield crowd.
“In terms of injury, he came off not due to having scored enough but because he felt something,” Slot explained. “So we will assess his condition for the weekend and beyond.”
