Arne Slot calls for Liverpool’s utmost effort but acknowledges uncertainty about the outcome.

Liverpool’s manager Arne Slot has encouraged his players to “extract the utmost” from the remainder of their season, although he acknowledged uncertainty regarding what that entails.
A 1-0 loss to Galatasaray leaves his team with challenges ahead of next week’s home Champions League round of 16 second leg, while they continue to trail their competitors in the pursuit of a top-five finish in the Premier League.
An upcoming FA Cup quarterfinal match against Manchester City next month will also present a significant test to their aspirations of securing silverware this season.
Liverpool’s struggle to produce a series of convincing performances and results has been a consistent issue throughout the season, and with two months left, time is limited for them to rediscover that form.
“What I desire is for every single player to maximize their potential in every training session and match we have from now until the season concludes,” Slot stated prior to the visit from a Tottenham side that is currently in poor form.
“That is my goal, and it should be the players’ goal as well, as that is the only way to fully capitalize on what is available to us.”
“What that will specifically entail is not always easy to predict in advance, as sometimes a bit of luck is required.”

Slot is counting on the quality of his squad to see them through, but despite being better positioned on paper than their opponents on Sunday, who have lost six consecutive matches, the execution of that quality has been lacking.
Tuesday’s defeat in Istanbul was yet another instance of failing to capitalize on opportunities, compounded by conceding a goal from a set-piece, which has been a recurring issue this season.
“In the first 15 to 20 minutes, there were three or four instances where we should have scored, and then a moment occurred that completely shifted the game’s momentum: conceding from a set piece,” Slot remarked.
“That is not something we accept; we are not saying ‘OK, we concede a goal after 20 minutes, and then everything will deteriorate,’ but it is clear we did not play our best match of the season.”
“For an away game in Europe, we created enough chances to score, but we have struggled all season with converting the opportunities we have, and unfortunately, we have the unfortunate combination of conceding goals from the few chances we allow.”
“As long as we cannot rectify that, every match will be challenging, but I have faith we can perform better due to the quality of our players.”
While Slot believes luck continues to influence outcomes, the statistics regarding past encounters with Tottenham suggest that Sunday’s match is one they should be able to win.
Liverpool has lost only one of the last 31 league meetings at Anfield—back in May 2011—and at home in the Premier League, they have recorded 22 wins, nine draws, and just two losses.
Spurs’ overall league performance at Anfield is poor, with only six victories and 53 defeats in 82 visits.
