Liverpool have ceased discussions with Tottenham regarding their interest in experienced full-back Andy Robertson.

The London club initiated their approach late last week as manager Thomas Frank, under pressure, aimed to infuse his squad with essential experience.

Liverpool considered the inquiry in light of Robertson’s significant contributions over the past eight-and-a-half years and the fact that his contract expires this summer.

However, the Press Association reports that the club has opted not to pursue further negotiations concerning the Scotland captain, who will turn 32 in March, after evaluating their alternatives. Sources have informed ESPN that the club is not inclined to part with Robertson, who has not requested a transfer.

This season, Robertson has started only four Premier League matches, having lost his position to Milos Kerkez, but he has been included in the starting eleven for four of their seven Champions League games, including notable encounters against both Madrid clubs, Real and Atletico, as well as Inter Milan.

Liverpool’s vice-captain came on as a substitute at the beginning of the second half during Saturday’s loss to Bournemouth, with head coach Arne Slot later indicating that Kerkez had been substituted due to being in the “red zone,” a state where players are at heightened risk of injury.

Slot has already lost defenders Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni to injuries that will end their seasons, while Joe Gomez, who has faced his own injury challenges, had to leave the match against the Cherries in the first half after colliding with goalkeeper Alisson Becker, with hopes that the issue is merely a bruise to his knee.

Additionally, centre-back Ibrahima Konaté has been absent for the last two matches following the passing of his father.

Captain Virgil van Dijk expressed after the match that he did not wish for Robertson to depart, while Slot mentioned his desire to retain all players as they remain competitive in both the Champions League and FA Cup.
