Ancelotti commends Luka Modric prior to Croatia’s exhibition match

Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti has expressed admiration for his former Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric in anticipation of Tuesday’s international friendly against Croatia.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or recipient departed Madrid last summer after securing 28 titles, which included six Champions League trophies and four La Liga championships.
Currently with AC Milan, Modric, 40, continues to orchestrate play in midfield and is anticipated to lead Croatia as captain in the World Cup.
“Modric is capable of playing in any role on the field because he is a complete midfielder,” Ancelotti stated on Monday.
“[He is] One of the finest players I have ever coached. An exceptional professional. Modric is truly unique. There is no other player like him in the world.”
Ancelotti’s team approaches the match in Orlando, Florida, following a 2-1 loss to France last week.
“We clearly need to enhance our performance,” Ancelotti remarked. “We have a distinct vision of our objectives for the World Cup.
“We must remain calm and composed, as the entire coaching staff and the CBF believe we are on the right path and in the right position. I think we have done well thus far.
“We are at a favorable point in this journey. We will be ready for the most significant matches of the World Cup.”
Brazil is striving to secure their sixth World Cup title.
“For Brazil to achieve World Cup victory, we require talent — which we possess — and we must defend effectively,” Ancelotti noted. “There is no alternative. I am not convinced that an offensive strategy alone is sufficient.”
Real Madrid’s VinΓcius JΓΊnior and Barcelona’s Raphinha have struggled to mirror their club performances while representing the national team.
Raphinha will be sidelined for Tuesday’s match due to a hamstring injury sustained against France.
“Raphinha and Vini are among the top players in the world at this moment,” Ancelotti stated. “I am confident they will excel at the World Cup. Both players exhibit excellent character and personality.”
Brazil will unveil their World Cup roster on May 18, but Ancelotti has already indicated that Flamengo right-back Danilo will be included in his final 26.
Danilo, 34, has participated in the last two World Cups but is not a regular starter for Flamengo.
“Danilo is a crucial player, both on and off the field,” Ancelotti remarked.
“Danilo is guaranteed a spot in the final 26-man squad because I value him … his character, personality, and style of play. He is capable of playing in all defensive roles. Danilo will be one of the nine defenders.
“I have a fairly clear idea of the starting lineup for the opening match, and the final squad is also largely determined.”
