Al Ittihad continues efforts to secure transfer of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah – sources

Al Ittihad, a club in the Saudi Pro League, have restarted negotiations for Mohamed Salah following the Liverpool forward’s announcement on Tuesday regarding his departure from the club at the season’s conclusion, according to multiple sources relayed by ESPN.
In September 2023, Al Ittihad had a £150 million ($200m) offer for Salah turned down by the Premier League team, and they are now poised to renew their pursuit of the 33-year-old Egyptian international as they seek a prominent figure to represent their club after Karim Benzema’s transfer to Al Hilal in February.
A source indicated that Al Qadsiah is the only other Saudi Arabian club with the financial resources and ambition to compete with Al Ittihad’s offer.
The source further noted that neither Al Hilal nor Al Nassr, where Cristiano Ronaldo has been playing since 2023, are pursuing Salah.
On Tuesday, sources informed ESPN that Salah will be permitted to exit Liverpool on a free transfer, despite having an additional year left on his contract, which he signed in April 2025.
The Egyptian winger’s tally of 255 goals in 435 matches places him third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, behind Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285), while he ranks fourth among the Premier League’s all-time scorers with 191 goals.
Since his arrival from Roma in 2017, Salah has contributed to Liverpool’s acquisition of eight major trophies, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League title.
Salah extended his contract for two years last April, securing his position at the club until the end of the 2026-27 season, following his standout performance in the team’s journey to a record-equaling 20th English league title.
However, his performance has declined this season, and he was omitted from three consecutive matches late last year. Salah subsequently gave a candid interview to the media, claiming the club had thrown him “under the bus” during a period of disappointing results for the team.
