The LA Clippers triumphed over the Brooklyn Nets 126-89 on Sunday night, concluding a 15-3 run that began in December. For one supporter, this outcome meant he had to fulfill a promise—literally.

Clippers head coach Ty Lue stated on December 20 that he informed the team their objective was to achieve a 35-20 record in their remaining games. At that moment, they held a 6-21 record. Robert Flom, managing editor of the independent Clippers blog 213Hoops, reacted to Lue’s challenge by posting on X: “If they go 15-3 in any stretch this season will print and eat this tweet.”

As the Clippers faced a Nets squad on Sunday that had secured two victories this calendar year, fans recalled Flom’s tweet. The Clippers also remembered, responding on X immediately after the final buzzer and sharing an image taken at Intuit Dome of the printed tweet.

Flom honored his commitment, stating that he would indeed consume a printout of his tweet during a podcast episode on Monday evening. Lue had a message for Flom after the game: “He’s got to go live.”

The Clippers are 10-3 in January, boasting the best record in the NBA during this period. This upswing has coincided with Kawhi Leonard regaining his form. He has scored at least 20 points in 24 consecutive games, marking a career-high streak, and concluded with 28 points against Brooklyn.

Leonard expressed concern for Flom, remarking, “I don’t know how healthy that is for you.”

LA now possesses a 21-24 record, placing them 10th in the Western Conference—a significant improvement from when Lue established the goal and Flom’s wager appeared unrealistic.
