Caleb Wilson departs from UNC after one season, entering the NBA draft.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina freshman Caleb Wilson is set to enter the NBA draft after describing his time with the Tar Heels as “the most fun year of my life.”
The program shared a video statement on Monday featuring the 6-foot-10 forward, who is considered a leading prospect for the June draft. This announcement confirmed Wilson’s decision to leave after one season, following his “#8out” post on social media late last month that hinted at this expected choice.
“I am thankful for the chance I had to represent North Carolina,” Wilson stated. “Wearing No. 8, running out of that historic tunnel every day for practice and games, and I’m pleased to say that I gave my all every day.”

Wilson recorded an average of 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds during a vibrant season that was interrupted by injury, first suffering a broken bone in his left hand shortly after a thrilling victory against rival Duke. Then, as he was nearing a return, he fractured his right thumb during a non-contact drill, concluding his season just before Round 2 against the Blue Devils.
Despite the setbacks, Wilson earned a spot as a second-team Associated Press All-American, a recognition that will guarantee his jersey will be honored in the Smith Center rafters.
He is projected to be selected fourth in ESPN’s most recent mock draft.
