Bucks knocked out of playoff race following significant defeat 1

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Bucks were formally eliminated from playoff contention following a 127-95 defeat to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, concluding the second-longest active playoff streak in the league.

The Bucks, who have consistently been contenders since selecting Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2013, had achieved nine consecutive playoff appearances prior to this season. The Boston Celtics currently possess the longest active streak at 11.

Milwaukee was missing Antetokounmpo for the sixth consecutive game due to a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise. He has participated in only 36 games this season, which significantly contributes to the Bucks’ difficulties. The team has lost nine of their last 11 matchups.

The two-time MVP’s future has recently been linked to discussions regarding tanking and player participation policies. In a statement issued earlier this week, the National Basketball Players Association seemed to criticize the Bucks for their intention to potentially shut down Antetokounmpo for the remainder of the season.

On the other hand, the Spurs secured their eighth consecutive victory and their 13th win in the last 14 games, closing the gap to two games behind the first-place Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference standings.

Stephon Castle recorded a triple-double with 22 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds, while MVP candidate Victor Wembanyama contributed 23 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists.
