Djokovic ascends to third place; Sabalenka retains position as leading female player.

MELBOURNE, Australia — Carlos Alcaraz achieved a career Grand Slam of singles titles with his victory at the Australian Open, but there was a silver lining for the player he overcame, 24-time Grand Slam singles champion Novak Djokovic.
While Alcaraz retained his No. 1 position on the ATP tour ahead of Jannik Sinner, Djokovic, who triumphed over Sinner in the semifinals at Melbourne Park, ascended one spot to No. 3. This marks the first occasion the 38-year-old Djokovic has been ranked in the top three since August 2024.
In the WTA Tour, Aryna Sabalenka held onto her top ranking despite her defeat in the final against Elena Rybakina, who climbed two positions to third in the standings, with Iga Swiatek positioned at No. 2.
Three American players followed in the WTA rankings — No. 4 Amanda Anisimova, No. 5 Coco Gauff, and Australian Open semifinalist Jessica Pegula at No. 6. Elina Svitolina advanced two spots to No. 10 following her semifinal loss to Sabalenka at Melbourne Park.
American Learner Tien rose five places on the ATP Tour to No. 24, marking a career high. The 20-year-old Tien, who was defeated by the now No. 4-ranked Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals, became the youngest American man to reach the final eight of a major since 2002.
