MADRID — At the Laureus awards on Monday, tennis athletes Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka were honored as the sportsman and sportswoman of the year, respectively, while Paris Saint-Germain was recognized as the team of the year.

Alcaraz secured victories at the French and US Opens last year, in addition to winning the Australian Open in January. Sabalenka, the leading female player, claimed her second consecutive US Open title last year.

PSG achieved its first Champions League title in 2025.

Rory McIlroy, who successfully defended his Masters title this month, was awarded the comeback of the year.

Barcelona and Spain’s Lamine Yamal, aged 18, received the young sportsperson of the year award.

Formula One champion Lando Norris was honored with the world breakthrough of the year award.

German football legend Toni Kroos was presented with the world sporting inspiration award, while retired gymnast Nadia Comaneci received the lifetime achievement award.

The world action sportsperson award was given to American snowboarder Chloe Kim.

Brazilian Gabriel AraΓΊjo was named the world sportsperson of the year with a disability.

The awards ceremony in the Spanish capital was led by tennis legend Novak Djokovic and freestyle skier Eileen Gu.
