NASCAR eliminates "Promoter's Caution" for Dover All-Star event 1

DOVER, Del. — NASCAR has eliminated the “Promoter’s Caution” for this year’s All-Star race at Dover Motor Speedway, opting for a three-segment, 350-lap format.

The event on May 17 will be the first instance in the 42-year history of the All-Star race that it takes place in the Northeast. NASCAR relocated the All-Star race from North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, to Dover, allowing North Wilkesboro to host a points-paying Cup race. Dover has lost its customary Cup race for at least one season.

All competitors will participate in the initial two segments.

The top 26 finishers from the first segment will have their starting positions reversed for the second segment. The remaining drivers will be arranged according to their finishing order.

The lowest combined finishing positions from both segments will determine the starting grid for the 200-lap final race. The final segment will include 26 cars, with race winners and past champions automatically qualified. The remaining positions will be filled based on the results from the first two segments until 25 drivers are confirmed. The last spot will be decided through a fan vote.

A competition break will occur during the final segment at or around Lap 225.

The winner of the exhibition race will again receive a $1 million prize. No championship points will be awarded.

Christopher Bell overtook Joey Logano with nine laps to go and secured victory last season in a thrilling NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

The previous year’s race included the “Promoter’s Caution,” which allowed the track president to determine when to deploy the yellow flag at a random moment in the race to regroup the field. This late caution contributed to Logano losing the race and the $1 million prize.

Dover will also host a Truck Series race on Friday and a second-tier series race on Saturday. This will be the first occasion in NASCAR history that all three national series compete during All-Star Weekend.
