USA Hockey Welcomes More Than 10,000 Kids for Try Hockey For Free Day on March 7 1

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Over 10,000 youngsters throughout the United States experienced hockey last Saturday (March 7) during USA Hockey’s Try Hockey For Free Day, presented by Discover, as part of Hockey Week Across America.

This nationwide initiative by USA Hockey, now in its 16th season, aims to offer children across the country the chance to engage with the sport of hockey at no cost. Certified coaches and volunteers provided guidance, while host locations supplied equipment for participants to use.

HIGHEST PARTICIPATION SINCE 2019
Saturday recorded the highest turnout for a national Try Hockey For Free Day since 2019, with an average of 44 participants per host site across more than 230 rinks.

KANSAS CITY, MONUMENT, OVERLAND PARK ARE TOP THREE
Line Creek Community Center and Ice Arena in Kansas City, Mo., topped the nation with 176 participants at its Try Hockey For Free event. Monument Ice Rinks in Monument, Colo., followed closely with 168, while AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk in Overland Park, Kan., welcomed 167 new hockey players. The top five locations were completed by Sport Stable in Superior, Colo. (145), and Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (134).

STATE OF MICHIGAN HOSTS MOST THFF EVENTS
The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association organized the most Try Hockey For Free events (28), trailed by the Mid-American Hockey Association (23) and the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois (19).

With backing from the NHL and its member clubs, along with sponsors and local associations, USA Hockey’s Try Hockey For Free, presented by Discover, aims to create a national platform for introducing children to hockey. These events represent the largest initiative globally for introducing the sport.
