MILAN – Kendall Coyne Schofield (Palos Heights, Ill./Minnesota Frost) scored two goals to assist the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team in achieving a 6-0 win against Italy today (Feb. 13) during the quarterfinals of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games at Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena.

“We anticipated a lot of energy from Italy and in the arena tonight, and we commend their goalie, Gabriella Durante, for her outstanding performance,” stated John Wroblewski (Neenah, Wis.), head coach of the 2026 U.S. Olympic Women’s Hockey Team. “They kept pushing, and that’s how it will be throughout the tournament.”

Just over seven minutes into the match, Team USA goaltender Gwyneth Philips (Athens, Ohio/Ottawa Charge) thwarted a breakaway opportunity for Italy, maintaining a scoreless tie.

At the 13:31 mark of the first period, Megan Keller (Farmington Hills, Mich./Boston Fleet) opened the scoring by converting a one-timer from the point, assisted by Laila Edwards (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/University of Wisconsin).

At 1:41 in the second period, a shot from Caroline Harvey (Salem, N.H./University of Wisconsin) was redirected high off the glass behind Italy’s net, landing on the stick of Coyne Schofield, who swatted the puck from just behind the goal line, off the back of Italian goalie Gabriella Durante, and into the net to extend Team USA’s lead.

At 4:51 in the middle frame, Britta Curl-Salemme (Bismarck, N.D./Minnesota Frost) skillfully moved into the slot with a toe-drag before delivering a pass across the crease to Coyne Schofield, who scored with a one-timer for her second goal of the game.

Edwards increased the score to 4-0 at the 5:17 mark with a wrist shot from the point that went through traffic and found the top right corner. Keller and Tessa Janecke (Warren, Ill./Penn State University) provided assists on the play.

With 8:31 left in the second period, while the U.S. was down a player, Curl-Salemme retrieved a loose puck behind Italy’s net and completed a wraparound attempt to extend Team USA’s lead to 5-0.

Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn./Minnesota Frost) then located Hannah Bilka (Coppell, Texas/Seattle Torrent) at the top of Italy’s crease with a cross-ice pass from the half wall, and Bilka redirected the feed into the top-left corner at 18:27, bringing the score to 6-0.

The third period ended without any goals from either team, as Philips secured a shutout for Team USA, stopping all six shots she faced.

With this victory, Team USA progressed to the semifinals, scheduled for Monday (Feb. 16) at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena, with the opponent to be determined after the conclusion of the quarterfinals tomorrow (Feb. 14). The puck drop is set for 4:40 p.m. CET (10:40 a.m. ET) and the game will be aired on NBC and streamed on Peacock.

NOTES: Team USA outshot Italy, 51-6 … The U.S. went 0-5 on the power play, while Italy went 0-3.
