GAME DAY | U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team Prepared to Face Germany in Opening Round Contest
MILAN, Italy – The U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team is scheduled to compete against Germany today (March 9) in its second preliminary-round match of the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena. The game is set to begin at 5:05 p.m. local time/12:05 p.m. ET, and it will be broadcast on USA Network and available for live streaming on Peacock.
In its opening preliminary-round game on Saturday (March 7), the U.S. achieved a 14-1 victory over Italy in front of a record-breaking audience, marking the start of its pursuit for an unprecedented fifth consecutive gold medal in a remarkable manner.
Every player on the U.S. roster contributed to the scoring in this win, and the 14 goals set a new record for the U.S. in Paralympic competition.
The total attendance for the match reached 8,992, establishing a new record for any sled hockey game at a major tournament, exceeding the previous record of 8,600 set during the 2019 World Para Ice Hockey Championship in Ostrava, Czechia.
Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) currently leads the tournament in goals, having scored four times in the victory, while Noah Grove (Frederick, Md.) is at the top of the leaderboard for assists with five. Both Farmer and Grove accumulated six points in the game, tying for the tournament lead.
Germany lost its first preliminary-round match to China, 12-0, on Monday (March 7), placing them third in Group A.

The U.S. and Germany have met twice in the Paralympics, both during the 2006 Paralympics in Torino, where Germany won a preliminary-round match, 2-1, but the U.S. claimed victory in the bronze-medal game, 4-3, against Germany.
Historically, the U.S. maintains a 7-0-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against Germany across all competitions. The last encounter between these teams occurred in the preliminary round of the 2017 World Para Ice Hockey Championship in Gangneung, South Korea, where Team USA secured a 9-0 win.
In addition to today’s game, Team USA will play its third and final preliminary-round match tomorrow (March 10) against China. The preliminary round follows a round-robin format within each group, with the top two teams from Groups A and B advancing to the semifinals on Friday, March 13, followed by the medal round on Sunday, March 15.
