MILAN – The U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team commences its participation in the Olympic tournament against Latvia this evening in the first of three preliminary round matches. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 9:10 p.m. local/3:10 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast live on USA Network and streamed on Peacock.
The U.S. will also compete against Denmark (Feb. 14) and Germany (Feb. 15) in preliminary round play, with both games starting at 9:10 p.m. local/3:10 p.m. ET on USA Network. For comprehensive details on the tournament format, click HERE.

Team USA’s lineup features only NHL players, who are returning to the Olympic stage for the first time since 2014 in Sochi, Russia.
“We’re thrilled about the opportunity ahead of us,” stated Mike Sullivan, head coach of the U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team and also the head coach of the NHL’s New York Rangers. “There’s nothing comparable to the Olympics, and I know our players are genuinely eager to compete.”
Team USA arrived in Milan on Sunday (Feb. 8) and has conducted three practices along with a morning skate today in preparation for tonight’s game.
The U.S. and Latvia have faced each other only once in Olympic competition, notably also in Italy in 2006, where the teams ended in a 3-3 tie in Torino to kick off preliminary round play. Current U.S. general manager Bill Guerin, who participated in three Olympic Winter Games, was part of that match.
Auston Matthews is the captain of Team USA, with Charlie McAvoy and Matthew Tkachuk serving as alternate captains. This trio held the same positions for the U.S. Men’s National Team during last February’s 4 Nations Face-Off.
