Rory McIlroy is considering whether to participate in another tournament before defending his Masters title next month following a lackluster performance at the Players Championship.

As the defending champion at TPC Sawgrass, McIlroy’s preparation was affected by a back injury, resulting in a disappointing tie for 46th place.

He intends to assess his physical condition over the next few days before making a decision on competing again prior to heading to Augusta, where he achieved the career grand slam last year.

“I’ll see how my body feels,” stated the world No. 2.

“We’ll evaluate how I feel during practice and at home, and if I feel restless, I might consider adding an event at some point.”

“I believe it was crucial to make the weekend here and play a few extra days. I’m pleased I managed to complete four rounds, and my body feels good.”

“I feel like my game gradually improved as the week progressed, even though the scores may not have shown it over the weekend.”

“But yes, I will really just see how the next week unfolds, observe how my body responds once I return to a full practice routine and gym sessions, and then I’ll decide.”

The Masters is scheduled for April 9 to April 12. The PGA Tour events leading up to it include the Valspar Championship (March 19-22), the Houston Open (March 26-29), and the Texas Open (April 2-5).
