Robert MacIntyre of Scotland may face disciplinary measures at the Masters following an incident where he made a middle finger gesture during a quadruple bogey.
The gesture was directed at the 15th green on the opening day after his approach shot landed in the pond at the front.
The left-handed golfer’s difficulties continued as, after taking a penalty drop, he sent his next shot into the water and, following another drop, overshot the back of the green.
He ultimately completed the par-5 with a quadruple-bogey nine, and after an outward nine of 39, he concluded with an 8-over par 80.
Organizers of the Masters, recognized for their stringent regulations, are likely to view this behavior unfavorably, and MacIntyre may encounter additional repercussions.
The Scottish player did not address the media waiting after his round.
MacIntyre also expressed his frustrations on the 17th hole by striking his club against the ground after his second shot, and he was heard swearing on the 12th and 13th holes.
He was anticipated to be a strong competitor at Augusta National after performing well at the Players Championship and the Texas Open, but he already appears to be out of contention.
