Justin Thomas receives medical clearance, intends to rejoin PGA Tour 1

Two-time major champion Justin Thomas has received medical clearance to resume all golf activities and intends to return to the PGA Tour once he enhances his strength and endurance.

Thomas, a 16-time PGA Tour victor, underwent a microdiscectomy on his back at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York in mid-November to address a disc issue that had been causing persistent hip discomfort for several months.

“After some follow-up imaging and discussions with my [doctor] and team, I’m officially cleared for all golf activity!” Thomas shared on his Instagram account. “It feels fantastic to be swinging freely again and getting some practice in on the course. … Can’t wait to get out there with the guys!”

At 32 years old, Thomas previously expressed his desire to return to competition during the tour’s Florida Swing, which commences at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens from Feb. 26 to March 1.

This timeline would allow him to be ready for the Masters, the first major tournament of the season, scheduled to take place at Augusta National Golf Club from April 9 to 12.

The 32-year-old, currently ranked 12th in the Official World Golf Rankings, secured victory at the RBC Heritage last season and achieved eight top-10 finishes in 2025.

Thomas last participated in the U.S. team’s 15-13 defeat to Europe in the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York, from Sept. 26 to 28, where he recorded a 2-2 match record.
