Tiger Woods has made a significant impact on the USGA by securing the U.S. Open with a record margin of 15 strokes, achieving three consecutive victories in the U.S. Junior Amateur and the U.S. Amateur, and sharing the record with Bobby Jones for a total of nine USGA titles.

Now, his name will be commemorated on a medal and a trophy.

During its annual meeting last week in New York, the USGA revealed that the winner of the U.S. Amateur will be awarded the Tiger Woods Medal, while the U.S. Junior Amateur champion will receive the Tiger Woods Trophy.

“The USGA and its championships have been a significant part of my life,” Woods stated in a release. “The U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Amateur were pivotal moments in my growth, both as a golfer and as an individual. To be honored in this manner is deeply humbling, and I hope it motivates young players to pursue their aspirations and value the history and principles of the sport.”

The U.S. Amateur has already designated its trophy in honor of Theodore Havemeyer, the inaugural USGA president.

The U.S. Open presents the Jack Nicklaus Medal to its champion, while the winner of the U.S. Women’s Open receives the Mickey Wright Medal. The USGA has also previously announced the JoAnne Carner Medal for the U.S. Women’s Amateur champion. Carner, who was known as JoAnne Gunderson at the time, is a four-time champion of the Women’s Amateur.
