Ben Whittaker scores first-round knockout as Eddie Hearn praises ‘superstar potential’

Ben Whittaker secured his second consecutive first-round knockout as promoter Eddie Hearn indicated that the Birmingham light-heavyweight will be “prepared for every 175 pounds fighter in the world” by 2027.
Whittaker took only two minutes and 24 seconds to defeat Argentina’s Braian Nahuel Suarez, who was knocked down by an overhand right in Liverpool and was unable to rise before the referee’s count concluded.
The Tokyo 2020 silver medalist (now 11-0-1, 8 KOs) stated on DAZN: “The more I step into this ring, the more experience I gain, the more at ease I become, it’s perilous [for my opponents].”
Hearn announced that Whittaker will return to the ring on June 27, making his American debut on the Jaron Ennis-Xander Zayas undercard in Brooklyn, before headlining in his hometown later this year.
Hearn further remarked: “I genuinely believe that by 2027 he will be ready for every 175 pounds fighter in the world. We have finally found someone in this country with superstar potential who could go out and defeat them all.”
