PHILADELPHIA — Prior to the San Antonio Spurs embarking on their yearly Rodeo Road Trip, standout forward Victor Wembanyama made a brief trip to Alaska following All-Star Weekend to witness the aurora borealis, commonly referred to as the northern lights.

Upon his return from the excursion, Wembanyama expressed his astonishment at the experience and shared several images from the trip on his Instagram account.

“If you inquire about the northern lights, I’ve encountered a few remarkable sights in my life,” Wembanyama stated Tuesday night, after the Spurs defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 131-91. “The northern lights are undoubtedly number one. It was in Alaska. It was the most incredible thing I’ve ever witnessed.”

“It’s simply something that appears so extraordinary. It helps you appreciate all the myths, folklore, and beliefs that people have held for millennia. You observe things up there. The display I experienced was, I believe, historic, perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, even for those who chase northern lights. It’s the most stunning sight I’ve encountered in my life.”

Wembanyama’s performance against the Sixers was impressive as well, considering the 21-year-old attempted a career-low five shots, concluding with a plus-minus of plus-41 alongside his 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and six blocks.

Five of those blocks occurred in the first half, marking the fourth instance this season in which he has recorded at least that many blocks in a half, according to ESPN Research. The rest of the NBA has collectively achieved three such halves.

The 22-year-old is currently averaging 23.7 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks this season.
