SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama achieved a season-high of 41 points and 16 rebounds while setting the record for the quickest double-double in NBA history, leading the San Antonio Spurs to their ninth consecutive victory by defeating the Chicago Bulls 129-114 on Monday night.

Wembanyama recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds within his first 8 minutes and 31 seconds on the floor, securing his 10th rebound just 1:55 into the second quarter. Jim Washington of the St. Louis Hawks previously held a double-double in nine minutes against the New York Knicks on March 6, 1966.

Wembanyama capped off his season high with a powerful, one-handed dunk for his final points midway through the fourth quarter. He finished 17-for-27 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, marking his 14th game this season with at least 30 points.

Stephon Castle contributed 21 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds for San Antonio, which has now secured nine straight wins.

Bulls point guard Tre Jones scored 23 points in his first appearance in San Antonio since being traded to Chicago as part of the transaction that brought De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs. Leonard Miller added 21 points, while Collin Sexton contributed 20 as the Bulls suffered their fourth consecutive defeat.

San Antonio, featuring six players in double figures, increased its lead to 29 points during the third quarter.

The Bulls took the court two hours after releasing Jaden Ivey for “conduct detrimental to the team.” Ivey, who is currently injured, did not accompany the team on its four-game road trip.

This news did not seem to affect Chicago initially, as an uncontested one-handed dunk by Matas Buzelis gave the Bulls a 5-2 advantage, prompting an irritated timeout from Spurs coach Mitch Johnson just 71 seconds into the game. San Antonio responded with a 20-13 run, sparked by Wembanyama’s early double-double.
