Minnesota Timberwolves standout Anthony Edwards underwent an MRI on his right knee, which indicated inflammation, and he will be reassessed in 1-2 weeks, as announced by the team on Tuesday.

Edwards had already been declared out for Tuesday night’s matchup against the Phoenix Suns due to knee discomfort.

The Timberwolves star has demonstrated remarkable durability throughout his six-year NBA tenure, having missed only nine games in the three seasons leading up to this one. He is currently averaging a career-best 29.5 points while shooting close to 50% from the field.

With only 14 games remaining, Edwards cannot miss more than half of the upcoming games to maintain his eligibility for end-of-season honors.

His absence is particularly challenging for the Timberwolves, who are just two games behind the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference but also only two games ahead of the play-in spots. Minnesota has been facing difficulties recently, having lost four of their last five contests.
