Nuggets rest multiple players against Spurs; Jokic's status uncertain 1

The Denver Nuggets have ruled out most of their regular rotation for the second consecutive game ahead of Sunday’s regular-season finale against the San Antonio Spurs.

One significant exception is three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, who is currently listed as questionable for the matchup. Jokic must participate for at least 15 minutes on Sunday to qualify for postseason awards.

The Nuggets’ choice to emphasize health and rest as they approach the playoffs may have various implications for the standings. Denver enters the contest as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference with a record of 53-28 but could potentially drop to the No. 4 seed if the Los Angeles Lakers (52-29) win against Utah on Sunday and the Nuggets lose. The Lakers possess the tiebreaker over the Nuggets due to a dramatic overtime victory last month.

On Sunday, the Nuggets will be missing Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, Cameron Johnson, and Christian Braun, as all four players — along with Jokic — were absent during Friday’s 127-107 victory over Oklahoma City. Tim Hardaway Jr., who participated against the Thunder, is also unavailable. Peyton Watson and Spencer Jones, both of whom have been sidelined for several games due to right hamstring strains, are out as well.

In contrast, the Spurs have listed Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and Devin Vassell as questionable. Wembanyama has already secured eligibility for postseason awards by playing on Friday. The Spurs are confirmed as the No. 2 seed in the West but could potentially influence the Nuggets’ placement in Oklahoma City’s playoff bracket with a victory.

If the Nuggets remain as the No. 3 seed, they will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs. Should they drop to No. 4, they will host the Houston Rockets.
