Nets’ Michael Porter Jr. managing a hamstring strain

NEW YORK — Michael Porter Jr. is set to be sidelined for a minimum of two weeks due to a strained left hamstring, potentially leaving the Brooklyn Nets without their top scorer for the remainder of the season.
The Nets announced on Thursday that Porter will undergo another evaluation in two to three weeks, raising the possibility that the forward’s most successful season to date may have come to an end. The NBA regular season concludes in just over three weeks.
Prior to this injury, Porter had already missed three games due to a sprained right ankle before sustaining the hamstring issue. An MRI conducted on Wednesday confirmed the injury.
The Nets have little motivation to rush Porter back as they aim to secure the best possible position for the NBA draft lottery. They are currently on a five-game losing streak and hold the third-worst record in the league at 17-52.
In his inaugural season with Brooklyn, Porter is averaging a career-best 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. The Nets acquired the starter from Denver’s 2023 NBA championship team last summer.
