LA Clippers rest Kawhi Leonard ahead of play-in tournament

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Kawhi Leonard will not participate in the LA Clippers’ regular-season finale on Sunday evening against the Golden State Warriors.
“He has been managing some issues with his wrist and ankle over the past few weeks,” coach Tyronn Lue stated prior to the game, “so we felt it was wise to ensure he gets as close to 100% as possible.”
Leonard recorded a career-best average of 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists during a largely healthy season, in which he appeared in his second-highest number of games as a Clipper. He played 68 games two seasons ago after being restricted to 37 in 2024-25 due to injuries.
“Just being healthy, being able to participate in back-to-backs, and being able to lead this team when we face challenges,” Lue remarked. “Iβm just pleased that he was able to return to the court for many games this year.”
Leonard’s decision to sit out on Sunday concluded his career-high regular-season streak of 57 consecutive games scoring 20 or more points, tying him with Bob McAdoo for the longest streak in franchise history.
His absence from Game 82 does not impact his chances for postseason accolades, including All-NBA selections. He is among the recently eligible players, including Victor Wembanyama and Evan Mobley, who became eligible for awards on Friday when Leonard participated in his 65th game, which is the minimum requirement.
Steph Curry and the Warriors have already secured the No. 10 seed for the play-in tournament, where they may potentially face the Clippers again.
