SAN ANTONIO — Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown was dismissed in the second quarter of Tuesday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs after officials assessed him with consecutive technical fouls.

During Boston’s offensive possession prior to the technical fouls, Brown seemed to lose his balance and step out of bounds while being defended by Spurs point guard Stephon Castle, leading to a turnover. Brown passionately contested the call with official Tyler Ford as he moved down the court, claiming that Castle had pushed him out of bounds.

Ford ultimately issued a technical foul against Brown. However, the Celtics guard persisted in his argument with Ford, prompting official Suyash Mehta to issue a second technical foul as teammate Sam Hauser intervened to calm Brown. This second technical foul led to Brown’s ejection.

At the moment of Brown’s ejection, the Celtics held a 51-49 advantage. Brown continued to dispute the officials’ decisions while teammates, Celtics security, coach Joe Mazzulla, and assistant Sam Cassell worked to guide him off the court.

In his 13 minutes of play, Brown recorded eight points on 4-of-8 shooting, along with two rebounds, seven assists, and one steal, as the teams went into halftime tied at 58.

It did not take long for the five-time NBA All-Star to express his views on the ejection via social media, stating on X that “this the s— I be talking about.” It remains uncertain whether Brown was referring to the officiating; he has been vocal about officials this season and was fined $35,000 by the NBA in January for his remarks regarding referees after a game.

Entering Tuesday’s game against the Spurs, Brown was averaging a team-leading 28.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists over 57 games.
